Principal’s Memo – March 1, 2024
Posted onMarch 1, 2024
Good morning LMS Families,
Happy March! Even though the last two days have felt more like January we’re excited for March and thinking spring! If you didn’t get to see some of the really amazing things that our staff and students did yesterday with the “extra day,” you can check it out over on our facebook page. We are looking forward to our upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences as an opportunity to collaborate with you on your child’s progress. You can read more about how to sign up below. Sign ups will open on Monday, March 4th. Trimester 2 closes one week from today, which means we’ll be sending home digital report cards two weeks from today.
Spring Parent Teacher Conferences
Spring Parent Teacher Conferences will take place on the evenings of Thursday, March 14th and Wednesday March 20th from 3:00 to 7:00. We will be using Virtual Paragon’s online Parent/Teacher Conference Reservation System to sign up. You can access the sign ups here. This link is also posted on our website under the Parents and Students tab. The system will open for reservations on Monday, March 4th. IMPORTANT – When you go to the website, you will have to type in Loranger’s master password before you can enter the System. You must enter OOB3to8 in the field labeled “School’s Master Password”. If you encounter any problems or have any questions, please send an email to LMSconferences@rsu23.org.
8th Grade Parent Information Night
On Wednesday, April 10th at 6:00 pm at the High School, the OOBHS Faculty will host a showcase of the different departments and quick peek into the curriculum for families of 8th graders.
The evening will consist of the following:

If you have any questions before these meetings, please don’t hesitate to call or email Beth Roe (eroe@rsu23.org) in the guidance department at 934-3705. The High School Guidance Department will also be visiting the eighth grade students on March 29th here at LMS to discuss what to expect for Freshman year.
Pre-K and Kindergarten pre-registration for Jameson Elementary
Pre-K and New Kindergarten registration for the 2024-25 school year will be open on the RSU 23 website starting Monday, March 4th. Be on the look out!
PTO/Boosters Dance Off
Loranger – Jameson families! We are excited to kick off our Loranger Jameson Dance-Off. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for student enrichment and activities and to strengthen our school community. We completely understand if your family is not in a position to financially participate right now. However, you can still be involved by simply SHARING about our fundraiser with friends and extended family online at mybooster.com. Sharing IS supporting! We’ll send more details, as we get closer to our kick off. We are grateful for our Loranger – Jameson family! Thank you for your support this year.
Food Pantry Information
If your family would like to receive weekly food bags sent home with your child, please contact our School Counselor, Judy Milligan at jmilligan@rsu23.org or by calling 934-4848. We have received a contract with The Good Shepherd Food Bank with a sponsor of Youth Full Maine to provide food for our pantry. We receive food from these organizations every other week. We also receive donations from the Old Orchard Beach Food Pantry and private citizens in our community. The food we receive varies with each delivery however all food is nonperishable. You are also welcome to pick up the food yourself by letting Mrs. Milligan know that you need a food bag left either at the front office or left outside for a no-contact pick-up. A bag can be packed for you any day just by asking.
Upcoming Drama Performance
The OOB Drama Club presents The Grimm Fairy Tale Spectaculathon – Friday, March 8th at 6 p.m. in the LMS Gym. The Drama Club is made of students from both our high school and middle school who all look forward to sharing their performance with you.
Student Chromebooks
We are seeing a high number of students who are forgetting to bring their chromebook to school, and/or not charged and ready for the day. This creates a lot of problems, number one is their inability to access their education. While we are doing everything we can to supply those students with a device for the day, our supply is limited, and with the amount of students forgetting their devices or having them uncharged, some days we are loaning out our entire stock. Please help us by reminding your child to bring their device every day. Thank you for your partnership with this.
Student Medication Procedure
Students may require medications for various reasons throughout the school day, this includes over the counter medications, prescribed medications and emergency medications. Per school policy all medications at school need parent permission, doctors orders and to be administered by the nurse or trained personnel. Medications are stored in the nurse’s office and the student’s parent shall deliver medication needed for school. The intent of this policy is to promote safe administration of medications to students and a safe environment for all our students.
Family Vacation Forms
During the school year some families take vacations and ask that we excuse their children from school days. This is not a problem, however, we do have forms to sign off on in order to help students understand the expectations of making up missed work. The forms can be found in the main office. Thanks for your help!
