Principal’s Memo – February 16, 2024
Posted onFebruary 16, 2024
Good morning LMS Families,
We have made it to February Vacation, and we now have some snow to help us welcome it. I hope you all have some wonderful plans to spend with your children while they have a chance to rest and relax as we take a break from the school day routine. Whether you’re traveling afar, or closer to home, or experiencing a staycation, all of us at Loranger hope you enjoy it.
There will be no memo next week due to the vacation, so the next memo will be on Friday, March 1st. Some important dates to remind you of as we return from vacation and turn the calendar to March:
● Trimester 2 ends on March 8th
● Spring Parent Teacher Conferences are March 14th and the 20th. Sign up information will be out after vacation.
Summer vacation may be tough to plan for today, but Oakhurst and YMCA have asked that I share their summer camp opportunity. You can read more about that in the flyer at the end of this memo.
Large LMS and OOB Thank You to Mt. Abram
Yesterday our fifth graders had the amazing opportunity to experience some downhill skiing over at Mt. Abram. All of our students did a fantastic job, but none of it would have been possible without the amazing group of staff and volunteers from Mt. Abram. We are so thankful for all that they did to make this happen. Thank you Mt. Abram!
Food Pantry Information
If your family would like to receive weekly food bags sent home with your child, please contact our School Counselor, Judy Milligan at jmilligan@rsu23.org or by calling 934-4848. We have received a contract with The Good Shepherd Food Bank with a sponsor of Youth Full Maine to provide food for our pantry. We receive food from these organizations every other week. We also receive donations from the Old Orchard Beach Food Pantry and private citizens in our community. The food we receive varies with each delivery however all food is nonperishable. You are also welcome to pick up the food yourself by letting Mrs. Milligan know that you need a food bag left either at the front office or left outside for a no-contact pick-up. A bag can be packed for you any day just by asking.
Upcoming Drama Performance
The OOB Drama Club presents The Grimm Fairy Tale Spectaculathon – Friday, March 8th at 6 p.m. in the LMS Gym. The Drama Club is made of students from both our high school and middle school who all look forward to sharing their performance with you.
Student Chromebooks
We are seeing a high number of students who are forgetting to bring their chromebook to school, and/or not charged and ready for the day. This creates a lot of problems, number one is their inability to access their education. While we are doing everything we can to supply those students with a device for the day, our supply is limited, and with the amount of students forgetting their devices or having them uncharged, some days we are loaning out our entire stock. Please help us by reminding your child to bring their device every day. Thank you for your partnership with this.
Student Medication Procedure
Students may require medications for various reasons throughout the school day, this includes over the counter medications, prescribed medications and emergency medications. Per school policy all medications at school need parent permission, doctors orders and to be administered by the nurse or trained personnel. Medications are stored in the nurse’s office and the student’s parent shall deliver medication needed for school. The intent of this policy is to promote safe administration of medications to students and a safe environment for all our students.
Snow/Remote Day Information
Please see the snow/remote day memo sent out by Superintendent Suttie.
Arrival & Dismissal Safety Procedures
I would like to remind everyone that for the safety of our students and staff the back side of our building including our parking lot is not a thruway. We have seen an increase in the number of vehicles using this as a cut through from Jameson Hill Road to Emerson Cummings Blvd and vice versa. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation with this in order to keep our students safe!
Family Vacation Forms
During the school year some families take vacations and ask that we excuse their children from school days. This is not a problem, however, we do have forms to sign off on in order to help students understand the expectations of making up missed work. The forms can be found in the main office. Thanks for your help!
