What I do

George enjoys entertaining throughout New England as a musician with the professional music groups 2nd Time Around, The High Ryder Golden Oldies Show and, Easy Street. George resides in Old Orchard Beach with his wife Mary, and their three Labrador retrievers Lucy, Papi, and Lexi. George and Mary have three grown children, George, Jared, and Melissa who is a band director at Scarborough Schools and is the current director of the SMJMA Music camps.


George Shabo was born and raised in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Rhode Island College in 1982. He also earned a Master of Science in Educational Administration degree from the University of Southern Maine in 2014. George has served many roles at Loranger Memorial School including Band Director for 28 years and Assistant Principal for four years. George has now made a return to the music classroom, teaching grades 3-8 music and chorus. He is also proud to serve as the Loranger Athletic Director.

While George served as Band Director of Loranger Memorial School, his marching, concert, and jazz bands were widely recognized for their excellence.  George has been associated with the Southern Maine Junior Music Academy since its beginning 22 years ago. He served as the SMJMA Jazz Band Director for eight years and has served as the camp’s Director for 12 years. George has recently retired from the music camp positions to focus on his school work and music.

In 2008, George was named a state finalist Maine Teacher of the Year program and was awarded the 2008-09 Walmart Teacher of the Year Award.
